%%AirPods Pro (2nd Gen).%% Earbuds that feel like they were designed for neurodiversity.
The Pros
- The ease of switching from noise cancelling to transparency mode makes it easy to adapt your soundscape to match how you feel at any given moment.
- Extremely customisable. For example, if you have Misophonia and find certain sounds emotionally draining/intolerable, you can fiddle with Audio Customisation settings and find a tuning that minimises sounds from certain frequency ranges.
- If you’d like to watch shows/movies on your Apple TV and iPad but struggle to pay attention or not get distracted, Spatial Audio (where compatible) is pretty handy as I find that the sound feeling more distant when you look away creates a natural feedback/incentive loop reminding you to look at the screen.
- AirPods hold a charge for 4.5 to 6 hours, with the case holding 24-30 hours worth. Best thing is that if it’s out of juice, 5 mins of charging equals one hour of battery.
The Cons
- Not obvious how to get to certain advanced settings.
- How you get on depends heavily on the shape of your ears as that affects everything from comfort level, noise isolation and likelihood of them staying in your ears. Changing tips doesn’t help either as the different size/materials often don’t fit in the charging case.
Essa's Tips
- Be sure to get the 2nd Gen of AirPods Pro, as the previous one wasn’t as good in terms of battery or accessibility settings.
- Take some time to explore all the available settings for the Airpods, especially the accessibility ones in case you find something that suits you. Particularly useful options to look into are sound recognition mode, background sounds and audiogram customization.
